Frequently Asked Questions
How long does Microblading last?
Microblading typically lasts 1-2 years depending on skin type, skin care routine, and life style. (yearly touch ups are recommended)
Does Microblading hurt?
We use topical anesthetic before and during the treatment to ease discomfort. Pain is usually a 2 on a scale of 10, some clients even fall asleep!
How should I prepare for my Microblading appointment?
24 hours prior - no caffeine or exercising
48 hours prior - no alcohol
2-3 days prior - no ibuprofen, aspirin, or blood thinning medications
7 days prior - no plucking, waxing, threading, etc.
14 days prior - no vitamin E, fish oils, or niacin. No extensive sun exposure or sun burns. No AHA’s, BHA’s, retinols, exfoliants, etc near brows or forehead
4 weeks prior - no laser treatments, chemical peels, microneedling, Botox, fillers, etc nears brows or forehead
6 months prior - no Accutane or steroids
What is the aftercare for Microblading?
Think A-W-M! (Absorb, Wash, Moisturize)
(DAY OF - ABSORB)
Immediately after the procedure, gently blot the area with a clean tissue to absorb excess lymph fluids. Removing this fluid prevents hardening and thick scabs. Do this only until any oozing has stopped
(DAYS 1-7 - WASH)
Limit showers to 5-10 minutes to minimize steam. Your face should only be getting wet at the very end of the shower. Avoid excessive rinsing and hot water!
Wash daily to remove bacteria, build-up of product and oils, and dead skin (don’t worry, this does NOT remove the pigment!)
Gently wash the area each morning and night with water and gentle soap or unscented cleanser such as Cetaphil or baby shampoo. DO NOT use any cleansing products containing acids (glycolic, lactic, salicylic, etc. OR scrubs/manual exfoliants)
With a very light touch, use your finger tips to gently cleanse the area
Rub the area in a smooth motion for 10 seconds and rinse with water
To dry, gently pat with a clean tissue
(DAYS 1-7 - MOISTURIZE)
Apply a tiny, rice grain amount of aftercare balm 2-3 times a day with a cotton swab and spread it across the area
Be sure not to over-apply, as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing. The product should be barely noticeable on the skin
Never put the aftercare balm on wet or damp brows
(ADDITIONAL HEALING TIPS)
Avoid at all times after procedure - chemical peels, laser treatments, active facial ingredients (glycolic/salicylic/retinols/etc.) directly on the brows as these products may discolor and/or fade pigment
Use a fresh pillow case while you sleep
Let any flaking/scabbing/dry skin naturally fall off as picking can cause scarring or loss of color
Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for a minimum of 1 week
Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for a minimum of 2 weeks
Avoid makeup or sunscreen on the area for first 10 days
DO NOT rub, pick, or scratch the treated area
What is the healing process after Microblading?
Day 1-3 - Brows will be bolder and darker than they will be healed, expect slight swelling and redness. Brows might feel tender and may look warm in color.
Day 4-5 - Redness should be reduced. Flaking and crusting may occur. Brows may feel dry and start to itch. Flakes begin to peel off in random pieces and look patchy and lighter in areas.
Day 6-12 - Flakes continue to peel off. 70-100% of flakes fall off during this time. Color looks very light and shape may look thinner. Some areas may look lighter than others and color can appear uneven.
Day 13-21 - Brow color gradually darkens as the skin fully heals. The fully healed color will be approximately 30% lighter than the initial appointment and retention can vary according to skin type.
